The warm-supplementing school stressed the yang qi of the spleen and kidney and opposed excessive use of cooling or attacking methods. Xue Ji (1487–1559) emphasised warming and nourishing the spleen-stomach and kidney-mingmen; Zhang Jingyue (1563–1640) further argued that “yang is not in excess” and favoured warm tonifying formulas. The school was an important response to Jin-Yuan cooling and attacking tendencies and deeply shaped later clinical practice.
