Zhang Jingyue
Zhang Jingyue served in the military in his youth before turning to medicine, later incorporating principles from the Book of Changes into his theory of the "life gate," arguing that yang is never truly in excess while yin is chronically deficient, and advocating warming tonification of kidney yang and yin over aggressive cooling treatments. He is considered the culminating figure of the Ming-dynasty Warming and Tonifying School. Late in life he compiled his complete body of work into the Complete Works of Jingyue, and also reorganized the Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon by topic with commentary in his Classified Canon, a work of lasting influence for its clarity.
