恽铁樵名树珏，字铁樵，江苏武进孟河人，16岁考中秀才，国学功底深厚，早年从事编译与文学创作，曾在《小说月报》发表多篇小说与译作，中年后因家人病故而弃文从医，专攻内、儿科，尤以儿科见长。他因通晓英语并受过系统的近代科学训练,能够对中西医学理论展开深入的比较研究，是中西医汇通思潮中颇具代表性的一员。晚年他创办「铁樵中医函授学校」，以函授方式培养中医人才，突破了传统面授的地域限制，并主编《铁樵医学月刊》，将毕生临证心得与理论著述汇编为《药庵医学丛书》（八辑二十二种），对近代中医函授教育与理论研究均具有开创意义。

Yun Tieqiao, whose given name was Shujue but who was known by the courtesy name Tieqiao, came from Menghe in Wujin, Jiangsu. He passed the imperial examination for the rank of xiucai at age sixteen and possessed a strong grounding in classical learning; in his younger years he worked as a translator and writer, publishing fiction and translations in The Short Story Magazine. After the deaths of family members, he abandoned literature for medicine, specializing in internal medicine and pediatrics, the latter becoming his particular strength. His command of English and grounding in modern science allowed him to undertake serious comparative study of Chinese and Western medical theory, making him a notable figure in the movement to reconcile the two traditions. Late in life he founded the Tieqiao Correspondence School of Chinese Medicine, training practitioners by mail and thereby overcoming the geographic limits of traditional in-person instruction, and edited the Tieqiao Medical Monthly. He compiled his clinical experience and theoretical writings into the Yao'an Medical Series (eight collections, twenty-two titles), a work of pioneering significance for both correspondence-based medical education and theoretical research in modern China.
