Bian Que
Bian Que is the earliest physician described in detail in Chinese medical history. The Shiji ("Records of the Grand Historian") records his four-part diagnostic method and famous episodes, including his diagnosis of a prince presumed dead. Modern scholars generally believe "Bian Que" may represent a composite or idealized figure drawn from several physicians across generations rather than a single verifiable person, so his exact dates and specific deeds cannot be precisely established. Even so, the diagnostic approach attributed to him is regarded as the origin of Chinese medical diagnostics.
