Where teaching carries the flame, and the apricot grove aids the world
In 1956, the State Council approved the establishment of four higher Chinese medicine institutions in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu; that same year, the predecessor of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine was also upgraded to college status. Together these five became the earliest Chinese medicine higher-education institutions founded after 1949. In 2015, the five jointly launched the World-Class Chinese Medicine University Alliance. Chinese medicine disciplines at universities across many other provinces have also been selected for the national "Double First-Class" initiative. On the research side, the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences is a comprehensive research institution directly affiliated with the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Below is a compilation of publicly available information on several representative institutions.
